Choosing the actors and the scenery.
Every animation starts with a couple of rigged models in your scene. It's important to find some that work.
Lucky for me, uni provided us with a bunch of good rigs to use, including Gorgeous George - a somewhat cartoony horse rig that seemed like the exact kind of horse model I'd like to use.
Given the cartoony nature of George, I decided to stick to the slightly cartoony art style. It'd be jarring if I placed some super high quality human model next to this horse. No, it had to more or less match stylistically. Thankfully there were plenty of other models to choose from. Among them, I found Blake.
Now that I had both my actors, I needed to find the right scene to put them in. I suppose given enough search across the internet, or more thorough digging through my uni's model database I'd be able to find a suitable one, but I figured that the style I chose i cartoony enough for me to just fumble together something low poly which wouldn't look out of place and which would be exactly the scene I need.
